Hot Sangria Recipe with Red Wine
Cozy up this winter with a mug of Hot Sangria—a sweet, fruity, and warm twist on a classic favorite. Made with rich red wine, juicy blueberries, crisp apples, and a hint of maple syrup, this drink is a must for any red wine lover. Whether you’re entertaining guests or winding down after a chilly day, this recipe is your perfect companion.
The best part? It’s so easy to make—your slow cooker does all the work!
Equipment
- Slow cooker
- Measuring cups
Ingredients
- 1 bottle red wine, I recommend Cabernet Sauvignon, but feel free to use your favorite
- 1 cup blueberries
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 cup apple juice
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
- 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier or a similar orange liqueur
- 1 medium apple, sliced into 1/4-inch thick pieces
- 1 orange, sliced into rounds
Instructions
- Prep the Fruit: Start by slicing the apple into 1/4-inch thick pieces. You can leave a few slices whole if you’d like. Slice the orange into even rounds and set both aside.
- Combine Ingredients: To your slow cooker add, 1 bottle red wine, 1 cup blueberries, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, 1/2 cup apple juice, 2 tablespoons bourbon, 2 tablespoons Grand Marnier, and cut apple. Stir gently to mix.
- Cook: Cook the sangria on low for 2 hours, allowing the flavors to meld. Once ready, you can keep the sangria warm in the slow cooker for up to 2 additional hours, but don’t let it stay too long or you’ll lose the alcohol.
- Garnish and Serve: When ready to serve, ladle the hot sangria into mugs or heatproof glasses and garnish each with an orange slice. Tip: Avoid adding the orange slices to the slow cooker, as they can turn bitter when simmered for too long. This also makes a lovely gift!
Notes
You have to be legal drinking age to drink wine, or simply change out the wine for an alternative drink of your choice. Please enjoy responsibly!
